Many single sex education programs in Florida may violate federal law, the American Civil Liberties Union said in a letter sent to state education officials on Monday. While the number of schools with single gender classes in Florida has dropped in recent years to 32 last year, the ACLU said that data on the programs that it received from state officials "indicates that several violate federal and or state law." In some cases assignment to single sex programs is "virtually compulsory," which would run afoul of federal law, and in some cases schools fail to offer a co-educational alternative, the ACLU said. It said some schools offer programs to one gender but not the other, among other complaints. "Several schools admitted to the DOE that their sex segregated programs are not voluntary, violating the plain language of federal and state law," the ACLU said. The group called on the Department of Education to investigate whether the single sex programs it identified as potentially illegal are still going, and if so, to force schools to end them, or issue sanctions. The letter was sent Monday to Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson and Educational Policy Director Lydia Southwell.

Idiots. Let them play with whoever, whenever. They will get it out of their system and life will go on. And don't forget the parents should have a say in raising their children, they can prevent them or make them play or teaach them lifes lessons. Quit making mountains out of mole hills.

Can't someone somewhere sanction the aclu (note the lower case letters). Why can't these educated (?) people leave well enough alone. Why must it be the way they want and if you don't agree spend millions on their lawyer classmates fighting them. Our country is going to hell and all we worry about is how much can I get and who can I get it from without working for it. Free is a way of life for to many. Suck it up folks it's going to get way worse before it gets any better. Used to be a great country but we had to ruin it. This world would be a great place to live if it wasn't for the people in it,myself included. Thank You and God Bless

What is wrong with making sure schools are following federal laws? Moreover, before you insinuate that the ACLU folks are uneducated, you should research the proper use of a "?". After reading your comment, you apparently do not understand how they work.

Federal law does not say that single sex sports are illegal. It says that if a school has a boys soccer team, they must also have a girls soccer team.
