Ramon Alexander Statement
January 15, 2014

Today, State Representative Alan Williams announced that he will forgo a run for the Tallahassee City Commission and run for reelection to seek the final two years of a potential eight-year term. When I announced on October 1, 2013, I stated, “To be very clear, I will not run against in any way, shape or form State Representative Alan Williams in 2014.” My parents Lorenzo and Cherry Alexander raised me to always be a man of my word. You don’t have to be an elected official to make a difference. I will continue to wake up every single day committed to improving the quality of life in my local community and across the United States. Over the past three months, our campaign has truly been blessed by your prayers and support. Because of your strong commitment to the future of our community, we successfully outraised all potential opponents nearly four to one in the fourth quarter of 2013. Only one other Democrat in the entire State of Florida running for the Florida House raised more money this fundraising quarter. We will closely follow all Florida Division of Election guidelines and transfer upon consent, all funds to the 2016 Florida House Race. The momentum we have created together over the past three months will play a critical role that will ensure we run a campaign in 2016 with no limits that engages all citizens in a serious dialogue about our future.

News Release: Gretna City Council Member Clarence Jackson

Gretna Council Member Clarence Jackson congratulates Rep. Alan Williams' re-election campaign.

We would like to wish Rep. Alan Williams well on his Re-election campaign. This race was never about running against Rep. Williams but to serve the people of Florida in District 8. Per our in depth conversation with Rep. Alan Williams who reconsidered running for House Seat district 8 over the months we would put our friendship first and not run against him as he has demonstrated great leadership in District 8. We look forward to our conversations with Rep. Williams and his guidance as we prepare for 2016 and unfinished business on the City of Gretna Council.

Alan Williams announced today he will be running for re-election of his seat.

He makes the decision amid talk that he was considering running for the Tallahassee City Commission.

Williams says after speaking with his family and constituents, he decided he wants to run again for his District 8 seat.

"I had spoken with a lot of folks that some wanted me to run for the City Commission race seat and some, a lot more, wanted me to run for re-election," said Williams. "And you know, I just thought long and hard about it. I think my best place was to run for re-election and to hopefully finish out the last two years of what has been a now six-year term."

Williams says he had already filed a bid for re-election and planned to announce his decision by February, but he said he advanced his decision because people wanted to know what he was going to do.
