National Forests in Florida Press Release
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Apalachicola Public Shooting Range is scheduled to be closed temporarily the week of July 1. Depending on weather conditions, the closure could take place on Monday and continue through Wednesday.
Firefighters from the Apalachicola National Forest will be rehabilitating an area directly behind the range, which was scorched last February during the Gun Range Fire. Wildland fire rehabilitation is a response effort to improve forest health after wildfires and restore the condition of the area so habitat can continue to flourish in a post-fire environment.
The Forest Service is responsible for managing post-fire work on federal lands, which involves emergency stabilization, rehabilitation and restoration activities.
For information on the Apalachicola Public Shooting Range closure, please call the Wakulla Ranger District office at 850-926-1904.
