Tallahassee, Florida - July 24, 2012 - Noon
A black bear roaming the grounds of the Tallahassee Airport had to be killed after efforts to tranquilize him failed.
The airport's Operations Head David Pollard says they young bear probably hopped a ten foot fence topped by barbed wire. It was spotted by a U.S. Airways crew near the taxiway on July 18th and a Fed-X ground crew also saw it on the tarmac.
Pollard says it posed a risk to travelers and airport workers.
Wildlife officers tried to tranquilize the bear and get him back in the wild but the darts missed. 15 people were trying to catch the bear, but finally on Thursday, July 19th, airport staff and a wildlife officer had to shoot the bear.
