Tallahassee, Florida -August 16, 2012

In less than a week, classrooms throughout Leon County will be full of students. But not all of those students can purchase the school supplies they need.

The 6th annual 'Back-to-School Community Experience' is hoping to change that.

The school supply drive is putting together backpacks stuffed with pens, pencils, notepads and more to give out Saturday, August 18 at the North Florida Fairgrounds.

"We do see it as a hand-up and a helping-hand to those who may be impoverished who may have that need so they don't have to feel ashamed to have that need and they don't have to feel ashamed for getting help as well," says Rev. O. Jermaine Simmons of Jacob Chapel Baptist Church, whose congregation is helping with donations.

Students from Pre-K through the 12th grade who attend Title 1 schools are eligible for the backpacks . The City says it expects to hand out more than 3,000 supply bags to students on Saturday.

Donations can be dropped off at Jacob Chapel Baptist Church on Lake Bradford Road between now and Saturday.
