Beach Alcohol Ban

TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. (AP) -- No alcohol is allowed on Sunset
Beach on Florida's Gulf coast during the weekends and on holidays.

The Treasure Island City Commission established the ban Tuesday
night as a way to curb large, rowdy crowds. The ban covers almost
all of Sunset Beach in Pinellas County.

The ban expires Oct. 3, but commissioners say they're
considering putting the issue before voters on the March 2012
ballot.

Officials say they received numerous complaints of drunken
crowds this spring. During one weekend in April, police arrest 21
people on various charges, including underage drinking, drunken
driving and disorderly conduct.
