Rep. Leonard Bembry is asking Gov. Rick Scott to speed up state assistance for several north Florida counties that are battling an explosion in the mosquito population in the wake of Tropical Storm Debby. "Our counties need help in battling against this explosion of the mosquito population brought on by the storm," said Bembry, D-Greenville, who is also running in a Democratic primary for the right to take on U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland in November. "With the risk of disease posed, it is important we act quickly." Bembry wrote to Scott on Tuesday and requested that the state speed up a state contribution of money that is needed to free up federal money that could help counties fight the increase in the mosquito population.
