Sen. Mike Bennett and Rep. Jeff Clemens are hoping a bill they have filed to make it illegal to hold up traffic in left highway lanes can find the fast track. The measure (HB 177) would limit the left lane to a passing lane, making it a moving violation to fail to move to the right if traffic is behind you. The sponsors, who said the measure would reduce road rage and traffic congestion, pointed to similar bills that have been adopted in other states like Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine and Massachusetts. “Blocking traffic in the left lane is a huge source of frustration for many drivers,” Clemens said in a statement. “Lane courtesy is important and can help ease road rage and traffic congestion. House Bill 177 will make Florida’s roadways safer.”
