Tallahassee, FL-A bill moving through the Florida legislature could restrict protests at funerals.
Under the proposed bill, people who are protesting would have to be at least 500 feet away from any funeral or memorial service.
The restriction would begin an hour before the serviced starts and last until an hour after it's over.
The bill suggests potential violators could face a year in prison.
"The government can impose reasonable restrictions on protest activities, so long as the restrictions are reasonable in time, reasonable in place and reasonable in manner and I think that's what this bill accomplishes," said civil right attorney, Rob Sniffen of Sniffen & Spellman.
If passed, the bill would take effect in October 2013.
