WEST PALM BEACH, Florida -- October 14, 2012
The body of a soldier who died in Afghanistan is back in Florida.
A Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office statement says 27-year-old Warrant Officer Joseph Schiro of Coral Springs died from small arms fire in Afghanistan on Oct. 6. He was flown to Palm Beach International Airport in West Palm Beach on Sunday.
The Florida Army National Guard and the Sheriff's Office are teaming up to receive the soldier's body at the airport. The 1218th Transportation Company of over 100 Soldiers will honor Schiro as he is taken off the plane. Six sheriff's office motormen will escort the hero from the airport to the funeral home.
The sheriff's office statement says Schiro "paid the ultimate price in the name of his country and should be honored as such."
