One Leon County educator is recognized for her contribution to minority students.
Dr. Pam Hightower, principal of Bond Elementary, is the 2012 Glenn Howell award recipient.
Bond students and faculty all assembled in the auditorium at 10:30 this morning. They surprised Hightower with banners, and cheers.
Hightower says today's recognition is even more heartwarming since it's her final year at Bond. She's retiring after 39 years with Leon County Schools.
"I've learned how to lead with my heart and not my head, and build relationships, and that's what you have here. Wonderful relationships," said Hightower.
Hightower's advice to other educators--Always do what's right and do your very best. She says if you do it, everything else will fall into place.
