Budget Chief Says Scott Flexible on Florida Spending

Tallahassee, FL - Gov. Rick Scott's budget chief has assured lawmakers his boss will be flexible about his spending proposals.

Budget director Jerry McDaniel, a holdover from former Gov. Charlie Crist's administration, told the Senate Budget Committee on Wednesday that Scott is under no illusion lawmakers will pass everything he's proposed.

Scott on Monday rolled out a $65.9 billion budget proposal that makes deep spending cuts. Education would take the biggest hit and Scott also wants to cut property taxes that support public schools.

Both of those recommendations drew opposition, and McDaniel agreed they'd lead to teacher layoffs.

The panel's chairman, Sen. JD Alexander, also turned thumbs down on Scott's proposal to pass a two-year instead of annual budget.

I say impeach him...I agree some areas need to be cut but not all.

The almost 5 billion dollars has to be cut somewhere, you can be that there are going to be no tax increases.

Really??? How about you don't have a choice Ricky. As much as you'd like to you don't have total rule over the State of Florida. The legislature will be the one's to tell you what the budget will be.

If he is so flexible why did he tell those who he had invited to dinner the other evening to "Just pass it!"

There must have been a staff meeting. Remember, this is one of Scott`s employees making the statement - not the Governor. You can bet that Scott will want every detail in his budget and I suspect there still will be some battles with the Legislature over cuts and what will be spent.

Why can't democrats be as tough as Rick Scott when they have power. Democrats are so worried they will be disliked or critized if they pass a bill that some may not like so instead they come up with this moderate compromise that never works (health care for example). With Rick Scott he knows his plan and he sticks to that plan. I admire him for that even though I disagree with everything he has done so far. He is a strong/tough leader.
