Press Release: Volunteer Florida
TALLAHASSEE – Recognizing the millions of Floridians who volunteer annually and also encouraging other Floridians to serve our state’s communities, Governor Rick Scott and the Florida Cabinet have proclaimed April 2013 as Florida Volunteer Month. The Florida Volunteer Month celebration, sponsored by Volunteer Florida, kicks off today and will continue throughout April.
Gov. Scott said, “All Floridians have the potential to transform communities and change the lives of Florida families through volunteering. When neighbor helps neighbor we are able to grow stronger communities and enhance the lives of Floridians throughout our state.”
In honor of Florida Volunteer Month, CEO Chester Spellman also announced the launch of Volunteer Florida’s “Champion of Service” Awards, which are being established to honor individuals and groups for their outstanding efforts and contributions to volunteerism.
“I am blessed to witness firsthand the impact volunteers are having in Florida’s communities from Pensacola to the Keys,” said CEO Spellman. “I thank Governor Scott and the Florida Cabinet for recognizing Florida’s volunteers and I look forward to continuing to honor their work every month with the Champion of Service awards.”
