Today at 12:56pm, 6 units from the Tallahassee Fire Department responded to a reported chimney fire in the 100 Block of Buck Lake Trail. The fire spread to the roofing material and into the attic. The resident stated that when he returned home, he saw flames coming from around the chimney. His wife was inside the home at the time, but uninjured. The exact cause of the fire spreading from the chimney is still undetermined at this time.

Damage is estimated at $15,000.

Yes, the point here was that Tallahassee Fire is always getting credit for the fire/medical calls out in the Chaires/Capitola area when probably 90% of the time the volunteers are first on sceen, have our own trucks set up and everything done. When TFD decides to show up at just about the same time that the news crew does, the news crew automatically thinks that TFD "saved the day again"...WRONG. They hardly ever use their trucks. The volunteers are out here busting their butts to help our community and assist TFD, but for some reason everone just wants to sit back and act like the volunteers are stupid or something. 70% of the volunteers with the Chaires-Capitola Fire have more training and experience than the firefighters with TFD that work at station 12, explain that? I think maybe everyone should sit back and take a good look at who actually is making the Chaires-Capitola area a safer place.

Chaires-Capitola VFD also responded to this fire. It'd be nice (& accurate) to mention that too.
