Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, participating with 31 other agencies of similar size and personnel across the State of Florida, has been honorably recognized. On Friday, the 27th day of June 2014 the Madison County Sheriff’s Office received an award for 1st place in the 2013 Florida “Click it or Ticket” Challenge (CIOT).
The “Click it or Ticket” Challenge is comprised of four waves throughout the year to remind and educate motorist about seat belt safety and enforcement. The Challenge is much more than issuing citations. MCSO deputies also conducted a number of surveys to calculate seat belt compliance in Madison County and collected data on traffic crashes within Madison County to be used in State wide data.
By winning 1st place in the “Click it or Ticket” Challenge the Madison County Sheriff’s Office was also in the drawing for a new fully equipped 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. The winner of the vehicle was the Green Acres Police Department. Green Acres Police Department competed in the category of 41 – 75 officers.
Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart, Captain David Harper, Corporal Jason Whitfield, Corporal Odell Livingston, Deputy Keith Kirkland and Finance Officer Nancy Curl attended the awards ceremony held at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando, Florida. Corporal Odell Livingston was the “top Producer” for the Sheriff’s Office patrol division in 2013.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office was awarded a total of 15,000 points to be used for the purchase of law enforcement equipment. The points are equivalent to $15,000. Sheriff Stewart used the points to purchase 18 body worn video cameras, 6 traffic barricades and a set of rechargeable traffic flares.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office will participate in the 2014 Challenge and encourages all Madison County motorist to practice safe driving habits.
