Tallahassee, FL (AP) - Governor Charlie Crist says the lifting of
a moratorium on deep water drilling is a threat to Florida's
struggling economy.
Crist criticized the Obama administration's decision Tuesday to
end the ban that had been ordered after BP's Deepwater Horizon well
leaked crude into the Gulf of Mexico.
The oil temporarily fouled a few Panhandle beaches but scared
away tourists along Florida's entire Gulf Coast.
Crist said without a thorough investigation of what exactly
caused spill any drilling "is a job killer for Florida, not a job
creator."
The government was under heavy pressure from the oil industry
and other gulf states to resume drilling.
Crist is a former Republican running for the U.S. Senate as an
independent.
