KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) -- A homeless man charged with beating and
strangling a man in what was the first homicide in Disney's
master-planned central Florida community will remain jailed without

A judge also told 28-year-old David-Israel Murillo that he
qualified for a public defender during Tuesday's brief court

His next court date has not been scheduled.

Murillo was charged Monday with first-degree murder in the death
of 58-year-old Matteo Giovanditto, who was killed in his home in
Celebration over Thanksgiving weekend.

Murillo told detectives he had been drinking with Giovanditto
when they got into a fight. Murillo said he became angry and beat
Giovanditto unconscious with an ax.

Disney relinquished control of Celebration several years ago,
though the town retains theme park-like flourishes.

[UPDATE] 12-6 2:45PM --

Authorities plan to announce an arrest in connection to the first homicide in Celebration, Disney's master-planned, picture-perfect central Florida community.

Authorities on Monday, Dec. 6 said they plan to announce an arrest in
the death of 58-year-old Matteo Giovanditto. He lived alone with
his Chihuahua and had been slain over the long Thanksgiving

The announcement is planned for 3 p.m. at the Osceola County
Sheriff's Office.

Celebration is five miles south of Walt Disney World.

With 11,000 residents, Celebration is something of an anomaly in
Central Florida. There's no suburban sprawl -- the entire place is
reminiscent of a quaint New England village. Disney relinquished
control of Celebration several years ago; the town is now
maintained like any other in Osceola County.

Osceola County Sheriff's detectives are investigating a homicide in Celebration -- the first-ever in the young community.

Investigators say a neighbor checking on a man who lives in her
condominium building found someone dead in the man's unit Monday, Nov. 29.

Officials aren't releasing the victim's name or the cause of
death, but say that based on evidence located in the apartment, the
case is classified as a homicide.

In a news release, deputies are asking for the public's help in
finding a vehicle registered to a man who lives at the apartment

The homicide is the first for the community, which was developed
in the mid-1990s by Disney. The county now provides most services
to the town.
