Associated Press News Release
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- Democrat Jessica Ehrlich has suspended her campaign for a congressional seat formerly held by the late U.S. Rep. Bill Young.
In a news release sent Wednesday, Ehrlich thanked donors, volunteers and her staff for support.
In 2012, Ehrlich ran against Republican Bill Young in the 13th congressional district. Ehrlich lost but almost immediately decided to run a second campaign. Last month, Young announced he would not seek reelection then died.
The offices of the governor and Pinellas elections supervisor are looking at scheduling the primary to fill the seat on Jan. 14 and the general election for March 11, though nothing has been finalized.
Democrat and former gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink of Hillsborough County announced on Oct. 30 that she would move to the district and run for the seat.
