SHERIFF’S DONATION/COALITION FOR YOUTH DISTRIBUTION OF CHRISTMAS GOODIES
The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office and several members of the community contributed to the Wakulla County Coalition for Youth (WCCY) to allow the Coalition to acquire 12 new bicycles for Wakulla County families in time for Christmas.
The WCCY Christmas donation program, “Operation Santa,” received funds from the Sheriff’s Office Christmas Fund and from members of the community, who donated as well, said WCSO Lt. Bruce Ashley who serves as the president of the coalition.
“These donations will go to children who asked for one thing and only one thing, a new bike,” said Lt. Ashley. “Sheriff David Harvey and members of the community came forward and provided the donations.”
WCCY members began distribution of the bikes and other holiday items such as clothing, house wares and more at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21 at the Coalition’s Christmas warehouse in Crawfordville. “Each child wanted a bike and they were given their wish,” added Lt. Ashley. “The sheriff’s office has also donated bicycle safety helmets.”
The Weaver family was also helped by the Coalition following a Crawfordville fire on Friday, Dec. 17 that destroyed their home and the contents of the home. The home was insured, but the contents were not.
“We hope the donations right before Christmas will make the holiday season a little brighter for the families that receive the bicycles and other items,” said Sheriff David Harvey.
