A trash pile at a busy corner in downtown Tallahassee brings emergency crews to the scene.
Police stretched caution tape across the corner of this parking garage at the intersection of College Avenue and Calhoun Street, as firefighters tried to box up cases of fluorescent light bulbs that appeared to be dumped overnight.
Battalion Chief Sharon Lippman said several of the bulbs had broken and they roped off the sidewalk nearby to make sure no one was exposed to any mercury or phosphorous.
Several of the boxes had AFL-CIO on the address label and a spokesman for the union says an employee inadvertently discarded the bulbs along with boxes for recycling. He says AFL-CIO is paying for it all to be cleaned up.
