FSU Great and NFL player Ernie Sims was back in Tallahassee July 13th for his fifth annual Ernie Sims Youth Football and Cheer clinic.

"I think it's very important that I do this because when I was growing up in this community we didn't have nothing like this, we didn't have nobody coming in and doing camps," said Sims.

He offers the camp free to youths to teach football and cheer skills with the help of staff.

For the first time, Sims' camp will hold a family fun run with proceeds benefiting the Lupus Support Network. Lupus is a potentially fatal disease affecting the immune system.

"I have a family member who's suffering from it, and I wanted to put a positive spotlight on that also," said Sims.

Sims' father was diagnosed with Lupus last year. It runs in their family.

"My sister, who is deceased now, died at 12 years old, my youngest sister, Shiela, who's here with us today, and my oldest sister. So my family has been really affected by this disease," said Ernie Sims, Jr.

They hope through the linebacker's foundation, they can help get one step closer to a cure.
