There are a lot of well known businesses in our area, ones with names that are well known by everyone.
Then there are companies like Danfoss Turbocor who may not be a household name, but their product is well known from coast to coast--all the way to the Australian Coast.
In 1993, Danfoss Turbocor started as a small R&D company in Australia. In 2007, the company completed its move to Tallahassee and despite the down economy, Danfoss is thriving with a 20 percent increase in growth over the past four years.
"We produce an average over the past couple of years of 3,000 to 4,000 compressors. This year we'll do up to five thousand compressors," said Ken Koehler, V.P. of Quality & Satisfaction.
Danfoss prides themselves on not only producing a good product, but also saving money.
"The nature of the product is energy savings. So the two things, are one, we are oil free so we are environmentally friendly and we save energy. For every compressor you install, you save 25-33 percent energy in savings."
Danfoss has 185 people working in Tallahassee with 14 more world wide. 50 percent of their customers come from North America, 40 percent from Eurpoe, and 10 percent from Australia. The plant is on 65-thousand square feet with 16,000 compressors running in the field and the future looks just as bright.
"It holds bright, a good forecast and a strong market presence and a good demand for new products, larger sizes...we'll continue to grow."
It's not just talk though, Danfoss Turbocor is now a World Class Compressor Manufacturer and is recognized across the nation.
"We are involved with the EDC and Capital Manufacturers Association. We just won the Manufacturers Award for medium size company. So we are appreciative of that."
