Tallahassee, FL -- Dozens of friends and family members sat in Lee Hall auditorium on FAMU's campus to remember Jonathan Ferrell.

Members of the FAMU football team embraced Ferrell's family. Ferrell's high school football coach Ira Reynolds remembered the pranks Jonathan would play when they went out to dinner.

"He would tell him it's my birthday. and they would sing the happy birthday song and it was every week. it took me a while to figure out who it was," said Reynolds.

FAMU head football coach Earl Holmes recruited Ferrell. He'll never forget his spirit for life on and off the field.

"I walked over to the sideline he hit me on my butt and said hey coach I can change practice around just put me in the game, put me in practice, I'll show em what I'm talking about. long story short I put jonathan in the game, maybe two or three plays later, he clean clocked this one guy and changed practice," said Holmes.

Ferrell's brother Willie sat next to Jonathan's fiance before thanking the crowd and giving them one last memory of the friend they lost.

"Just for the words of Jonathan, I want to say he loved everybody, he loved you all, and I promised him that I wouldn't cry and I didn't," said Willie Ferrell.

Jonathan Ferrell's family didn't want to comment about his death after the vigil. Earlier Thursday, FAMU High's coach Reynolds announced that they'd be retiring Jonathan's number 28 jersey next month.
As for the actual case, a district attorney in North Carolina is now calling for the state attorney general's office to prosecute Officer Randall Kerrick.
