In honor of Women's History Month, five female faculty members at FAMU were honored.

There are some things that these women say you can't find in school history books. So, they wrote about them -- the African American experience.

Friday, the women were honored.

Honoree Huberta Jackson-Lowman, Ph.D. says, "It's wonderful. It really is, it's wonderful and humbling as well."

In honor of Women's History Month, FAMU held a reception called, "In Praise of Black Women."

It was held at the Black Archives on campus.

The honorees are all female faculty members at FAMU.
They are:

  • Dr. Valencia Matthews - Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities (CSSAH)

  • Dr. Phyllis Gray-Ray - Executive Director of FAMU Juvenile Justice Research Institute

  • Dr. Annette Singleton Jackson - Associate Professor of Marketing

  • Dr. Huberta Jackson-Lowman - Associate Professor of Psychology

  • Dr. Monekka Munroe - Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice

They were recognized for their research and published works on the black and female experience.

Honoree Phyllis Gray-Ray, Ph.D. says, "It is extremely important because in the past they haven't been discussed or written about. Many of us don't know about our own history and culture, let alone others who are not of our ethnicity or race."

For more information on these women's books, call the FAMU Black Archives at (850) 599-3020.
