FAMU Adopts Dress Code

Tallahassee, FL -- April 5, 2012 --

Bare feet, clothing with offensive messages, netted shirts, halters, tube tops, and cut off tee shirts are just a few of the items prohibited in a new dress code for FAMU students. The code was adopted by the University Board of Trustees today, and immediately became a hot topic of discussion on campus. Renee Mowatt agrees with the code.

“I agree because I think when you are on a college campus, you should dress as though you are already in the work world. We are being prepared for our fields of work as we are on campus and I just don’t feel people should be able to dress however they want to dress when they are on campus.”

But Renee found an argument from fellow student Chantal Usher of Jacksonville.

“There are some people who do embarrass and go a little bit far, but this dress code is not going to stop that. People are still going to wear what they want to wear. We are old enough to choose and we should be able to decide what we want to put on our bodies, especially when we are paying thousands of dollars to attend a university” says Chantal.

Students violating the dress code will be denied admission to university events.

let them wear what they want to wear. if they havent learned how to dress by now they never will or at least it will take thousands of jobs they lose and applications shredded for them to realize. you cant shove these things down their throats, they will figure it out when they fail miserably at things like geting a job and chances are most of the time these kids wont make it past a few semesters anyways

This is nothing new, it's just transitioned from an assumed understanding to an official doctrine. Being an institute of higher learning, people should step up & represent respectfully. Have your fun, but use common sense & dignity to understand why the school would opt for this undertaking. Perception is key to earning respect...

This dress code has been around for years in the School of Business & Industry(SBI), so what’s the big deal. This is not a white or black issue; this is about preparing theses kids to be a professional.

Does this mean FAMU students will be required to dress? If their momma's or Aunties could not teach them I do not thing the FAMU administration can. They cannot even account for their money or prevent their students from killing a gay band member.

it's not ridiculous at all. i applaud FAMU for this decision. now if only FSU would get it's behind going, we could stop seeing the woman walking around hanging out from the front and back. if you want to go trolling, go to a nightclub, not the university.

If the FAMU administraters were white you could be assured there would be a massive and prolonged protest. Because they were black yo wont hear a peep. Typical.
