Students Startled by FAMU Robberies
by Danielle Eldredge

Tallahassee, FL -- March 28, 2012 --

A couple of robberies on FAMU's campus has some students on high alert.

The latest incident happened last night. Three men robbed a student at gunpoint.

Famu police say a FAMU student was walking in a parking garage on campus around 11 Tuesday night. That's when three men with a gun told him to hand over his backpack and cell phone. The student gave it to them and the robbers took off.

"Students don't even feel like they're safe on campus and that's like terrible," said FAMU student Raven Whitehead.

"It definitely makes me concerned that it can happen to anyone. It can happen to me one day," said FAMU student Joseph Francis.

Tuesday night's robbery is not an isolated incident.

Last month, campus police say a robber punched a student and tried to grab her purse.

"You're here to get an education but when you have all these other things going on it's kind of hard to focus on that," said Whitehead.

FAMU sends out text alerts to warn students of possible dangers.
So students are learning about these incidents as they're happening.

Although FAMU does have many securities measures, many students say that's just not enough.

"So I feel like there's not enough security or police or something," said Whitehead.

Amidst the crimes, students are taking their own precautions.

"I feel like you should always have somebody with you. Especially girls at night," said Whitehead.

"Be careful, don't walk by yourself walk in groups," said Francis.

This morning Leon County Deputies found a car matching the suspect's vehicle.

A man inside was arrested on unrelated charges. The three robbers are still on the loose.

They need to have some campus security go through a class taught by George Zimmerman and perhaps that will solve some problems

Why so much anger and hatred in the comments to this article whatever happened to E.L.E (everybody LOVE everybody) A time is coming possibly when there could be race wars as a result and byproduct of the institutionalized oppression that this country was founded with even after the expulsion of slavery and the end of segregation economic disparity has help to broaden the racial divide and to fan the fires as evident with the increased number of crimes committed by low income people it’s so sad so much hatred is still deeply rooted in the heart of so many. We must realize that racism is a major part of the plans of the evil one to destroy us. Tough economic times and lack of moral character is the real thug behind the increased crime in Tallahassee and nationwide. Crime is not a black thing or a white thing it’s a people thing. God is watching stop the Hate. The second coming of Jesus Christ could be within our next breath I don’t want to be found with hate in my heart neither should you…… E. L. E God Bless America!

I have to agree. Creating defense free zones that do absolutely NOTHING EXCEPT empower and embolden the criminals is embarrassingly and profoundly stupid. Say keeping it real, did you vote any of the people responsible for that law? Going to vote again in the future? Going to help FIX that stupidity, or going to help continue it? Yeah. Exactly. Are you a fool?
