TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM), in conjunction with their partners, announce the 2014 Severe Weather Awareness Week (SWAW) Video Public Service Announcement contest winners.
The high school team includes Brooke Callendar, Chason Scruggs, Reese Frazier, and Trevino Williams of Florida State University School in Tallahassee, Fla. The winning middle school team of Emma McPhilamy and Skyler Negron from Oak Grove Middle School in Clearwater, Fla. Students from across the state submitted entries in this year’s contest, and the public voted for their favorites from among the finalists.
“The 2014 Severe Weather Awareness Week PSA contest finalists showed creativity and innovation in their messages encouraging Floridians to prepare for all hazards,” said FDEM Director Bryan W. Koon. “I’d like to congratulate this year’s winners, and I encourage everyone to check their emergency plan and disaster supply kit to ensure readiness year-round.”
The winning high school and middle school entries will have their videos professionally reproduced and aired throughout the state as part of FDEM’s 2014 Media Campaign.
