HAVANA, Fla. - The Florida Department of Law Enforcement Tallahassee Regional Operations Center arrested Shaun Denard Pye, 41, yesterday, of Tallahassee, Fla., on one count of perjury in official proceeding.
At the request of Havana Police Chief Tracy Smith, FDLE Agents began investigating Pye earlier this month. The investigation found that Pye lied under oath in Traffic Infraction Court on Aug. 4, 2014 in Gadsden County when he told the court traffic stops are not recorded and his emergency lights were working properly.
However, it was determined that Pye had been told by another Havana Police Department officer that his lights were malfunctioning and that traffic stops have been recorded by Havana PD for more than a year.
“An officer's honesty and integrity are very important to me,” said Havana Police Chief R. Tracy Smith. “I feel that we owe our citizens, as well as visitors, a fair, courteous, and professional experience when dealing with our officers.”
Pye turned himself in yesterday afternoon and was booked into the Gadsden County Jail on a $5,000 bond and has bonded out. The investigation will be prosecuted by the Office of the State Attorney, 2th Judicial Circuit.
