[UPDATE] 11-9 1:57pm --

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) --

An affidavit shows that a Volusia County woman knew about her mother's attempt to sell her child and wanted some of the money to pay for a new car.

Stephanie Bigbee Fleming of Bradenton was charged Tuesday, November 9 with principal to illegal sale or surrender of a child. The 22-year-old is being held at the Manatee County Jail. It was not immediately
known if she has an attorney.

The Daytona Beach News Journal reports that her mother,
45-year-old Patty Bigbee, offered to sell the 8-week-old baby for
$30,000 to another daughter. When the daughter mentioned she wanted
a baby, Bigbee offered her grandson for sale. The woman then
notified authorities.

Bigbee is charged with illegal sale or surrender of a child and
communication fraud.

Daytona Beach, FL (AP) -

A Volusia County woman and her
boyfriend have been arrested after reportedly trying to sell her
infant grandson.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents arrested
45-year-old Patty Bigbee and 42-year-old Lawrence Works on Friday
in Daytona Beach. Both were charged with illegal sale or surrender
of a child, and Bigbee was also charged with communication fraud.

Wayne Ivey, resident agent in charge of Volusia and Brevard
counties, says the FDLE began investigating Bigbee in October,
shortly after she offered to sell the baby to an unnamed buyer for
$75,000. The price was eventually negotiated down to $30,000.

Officials say the child's mother is currently incarcerated on
unrelated charges.
The infant has been turned over to the Florida Department of
Children & Families.
It wasn't immediately known if Bigbee or Works had an attorney.

Anonymous!! Why did you not put a name on here?? U need a name and address so we can all come shake your hand and hug your neck!! The world needs to put your message on MEGAPHONE for the good folks of America to hear it loud and clear! I applaude your truth and welcome more people to call that duck a duck and treat it as such!

Anonynous, I so agree with everything you said in your post and it is all to evident that these "fine" mothers having children and letting the grandmothers raise them is a joke! The future children being born live with the grandparents while the mother parties it up on the weekends works a little part time job and knows NOTHING of what being a mother is!! It is 24/7 and 365 days a year with no time off. Mothers are not mothers these days,,it shows in our jails and prison system....better build more cause they continue to multiply with no shame for any of their actions!! WOW!!

Point in fact, if you are in jail instead of at home with your child, you are not a fit parent. Point blank. I'm SO tired of the "he/she is a good person caught up in bad circumstances." Well you know what? Life ain't fair to ANYONE, but once you're a parent, it STOPS BEING ABOUT YOU and starts being about what's best for that offspring. If you aren't there, due to incarceration, then you failed as a parent - no matter WHY you're in jail. Newsflash America, by defending everyone for everything without allowing people to be held responsible for their actions, you create a world of self-serving, irresponsible people with no understanding of the "greater good." Quit defending people because they are the same color as you and start seeing the real picture. Yes. Good people CAN do bad things, but being a good person isn't an excuse to skirt punishment. So quit jumping people's posts for speaking the truth - just because it "hurts your feelings" and (in your words) "shut up."

SHUT THE HECK UP TIR on Nov 6, 2010 at 12:19 PM Seriously, you are upset with my post, why. The words that I used are words that are always used when a black child is involved. Why is it that no one calls for those people to "shut up". Typical white is right logic.

Shut UP ,,,does it really matter what she is in prison for? If you made it to prison, can you really be a fine upstanding citizen and mother?

@ TIR... really you should find out all the facts before opening your mouth. You dont't know why the mother is in prison so shut your trap... Stop assuming and get your own business... rathering than being in others business.

Mother incarcerated and she leaves the child with it's grandmother. Where is the father in all of this, is he in jail also, prison. Everyone in the family must be so proud. Think they should look into the mother as well, she probably knew all about this sad and pathetic plan. Some people should not be allowed to have children. I am sure the government was supporting the child and will have to continue to support the child due to having been born into the family of such low-life individuals.
