The Florida State University Foundation's Dan Krueger is monitoring the school's second annual Great Give.
"The great give is a 36 hour online giving campaign, we started it last year, it took place in January of 2012," said Krueger.
The day and a half fundraising blitz raised $186,000 last year. This year, the Office of Annual Giving went to each school in the university, along with athletics, to see what they needed support for.
The great give coincided with Earth Week. Using paperless platforms on the Internet and through social media, the FSU Foundation hopes to take the virtual dollars and turn them into real world improvements for the university.
"I think you come away realizing that this is a large university with a lot of different programs that are in need, and our alumni represent all the different backgrounds and so they're able to reach in and give money to what's important to them," said Scott Atwell, the President and CEO of the FSU Alumni Association and a donor himself.
The only stipulation is that the support has to go to a philanthropic venture. So there are numerous scholarship funds being donated to as well as other projects.
So, how does Krueger get through the whole 36 hour fundraiser in his office? One word: patience.
Press Release: Florida State University
On April 18-19, Florida State University will host The Great Give for its second year. Last year, donors contributed more than $186,000 in support of academic and athletic programs at Florida State - all within a 36-hour timeframe.
Just as we did last year, we are asking all supporters of FSU - alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents and friends - to make a gift during this 36-hour online campaign. To help make your gift even more impactful, we worked with a number of colleges and units on campus to create a list of 20 featured projects for you to support. We hope you will consider supporting us with a gift and asking fellow Seminoles to follow your lead.
