TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –- February 20, 2012 --

Dance Marathon at Florida State University celebrated its 17 years of making miracles this past weekend and raised $584,023.89 for a great cause.

Exceeding every total fundraised amount since its creation in 1995, Dance Marathon at Florida State has been named the largest student-run organization in the Southeast. Over 1,800 dancers and 2,000 volunteers participated in this campus-wide event from Friday, February 17 until Sunday, February 19.

All of the money fundraised benefits Children’s Miracle Network, Shands Hospital for Children and the Florida State University College of Medicine Pediatric Outreach Program. Children, who have personally benefited from this event, attended Dance Marathon at FSU to share their stories with dancers who volunteered to stand on their feet for 20 hours. FSU students showed they “stand for those who can’t.”

The event consisted of two 20-hour shifts, where dancers were entertained by performances, games, activities and the famous eight minute “line dance." The Dance Marathon line dance is played every hour on the hour to motivate dancers to keep standing and make it through their shifts.

Over the past 17 years, Dance Marathon has raised over $3.8 million dollars for all of its beneficiaries. The students at Florida State University will always continue to party with a purpose for all the kids.
