Fatal House Fire

Fire rips through a Tallahassee home and both police and the fire marshal are called in to investigate.

It happened at a home on the corner of Pontiac Drive and Apache Street Monday.

Someone died in that fire, but authorities are not yet releasing the person's identity.

Fire marshals confirm there was an autopsy conducted today (10-26) but are not yet releasing the cause of death.

Tallahassee Police are not commenting at all today on the investigation.

A man who identified himself as the homeowner was in the front yard this afternoon, but he declined comment as well.

Monday afternoon around 1:45, Tallahassee Firefighters responded to a reported house fire in the 1000 block of Apache Street. On arrival they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the northwest end of the home. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze. During the initial search for victims, firefighters found one occupant deceased.

Investigators from the State Fire Marshals Office and the Tallahassee Police Department are conducting a joint investigation of the incident.

Damages to the home are estimated at $45,000.
