Tallahassee, FL -- May 9, 2012 --

You may not remember exactly what you were doing June 11, 2011, at 1:11 p.m. But a few Tallahassee first responders do.

"It was a bad wreck, there was enough that people were stopping...I was here at station 1, and over our dispatch they toned out for a vehicle accident on I-10, with a possible fatality," said Captain Mike Hadden of the Tallahassee Fire Department.

Captain Hadden was one of the first on the scene for the crash that claimed three lives, but he wasn't the first one there that was helping.

"I thought they were off-duty fire fighters, I really did because they looked like they knew what they were doing," said Hadden about the people he saw helping victims when he arrived on scene.

They weren't firefighters, but a crew from Missippi Power traveling through town. They were on there way back from an emergency response rodeo where they showed off their skills. The crew immediately jumped into action.

"It was a lot of help, the fact that they were there to tend to the less critical patients freed up a lot of resources on our side to focus on the more critical patients," said Hadden.

"We train them to the first responder level, which is critical because the first people on the scene to an incident, whether it be medical or trauma related such as this wreck, those first few minutes are so critical," said Emergency Response Team coordinator Dwight Coggin. Coggin is the coordinator for Southern Company, the parent company of Mississippi Power.

Hadden said that the crew should hang their heads high and that if they got through that, they probably think they can get through anything.

The Mississippi power crew was also recently honored by Southern Company for their bravery.
