Winter Springs, FL - The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park’s Festival of Lights has been extended for an additional weekend through January 2, 2011.
Due to popular demand, visitors can now experience more than four million lights throughout the park for an extended period to include the weekend of Saturday and Sunday January 1 and 2, 2011. This popular high voltage holiday event has already exceeded attendance records for the previous year of 2009. The event is open every day from dusk to 9:00p.m., and now includes a great way to ring in the New Year’s Day weekend.
An award-winning Top Twenty Event in the Southeast United States, visitors can enjoy the holiday sights and sounds as they drive through the park to see unique holiday light displays, including the majestic oak trees adorned with over fifty thousand lights each, an antebellum Museum dressed in full holiday splendor, and a gingerbread village located at the Gift Shop and Craft Square. The centerpiece of the park’s light display is the Carillon Tower, which illuminates the night sky standing more than 200 feet tall dressed from head to toe in lights as holiday music rings from its bells at 6:00p.m., 7:00p.m. & 8:00p.m.
The Stephen Foster Museum is open extended hours to 8:30 p.m. nightly featuring live holiday music by local church choirs on select nights. Also located at the museum, visitors can take a horse drawn wagon or horse drawn limousine carriage ride through the park to see the beautiful lights while caroling with your family and friends. Contact the park for details and fees.
The Gift Shop & Craft Square is filled with one of a kind unique hand made items from our local artists and craftspeople who will also be on hand demonstrating and offering fun activities each evening throughout the craft square. This is the place to visit for the most unique and beautiful holiday gifts this season as the store has a large selection of hand made and one-of-a-kind holiday ornaments and decorations, a children's area, a comprehensive collection of Florida Books, hand made jewelry, pottery and blacksmith works and thousands of other original items! The Craft Square and Gift Shop come alive each evening with fun-filled activities for everyone and this is definitely one place you do not want to miss during the festival! Santa will be there through Christmas Day.
Park Entrance Fees for this evening event will be $2.00 per person. The Festival of Lights is sponsored by the Stephen Foster Citizens Support Organization, the Town of White Springs and its special events committee, and made possible by the generous support of numerous local individuals and businesses in the Suwannee Valley Region.
