A forest fire continues to burn near Silver Lake in western Leon County.

According to Florida Division of Forestry spokesman Todd Schroeder:

The fire was started by a lightning strike. It has burned 630 acres so far.

At one point Monday afternoon, the flames were more than 100 feet high.

Schroeder says right now, the fire is about 50% contained.

It is burning near the corner of Forest Road 301 and Forest Road 376.

Schroeder says because it is has been so dry, regular water draw points in the forest are empty and they are having to bring water in by the truckload. The Lake Talquin Volunteer Fire Department is helping with that.

The fire is now called the "4-A" fire and the popular ATV trail of the same name has been closed.

Motorists along Highway 20 should be prepared for smoky conditions on the road.
Tallahassee, FL - Tallahassee Police Department tells WCTV that State Forestry Service firefighters have contained a forest fire located in the national forest on state road 301 in the Lake Talquin area.

There are no known injuries and no known personal property damage.
