Last night, TFD responded to two structure fires hours apart. The first fire came in at 8:52 p.m. located in the 3000 Block of South Meridian Street. Firefighters arrived to fire showing from several windows of the single-story home. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and completed a search of the home. The two occupants were not home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported at the fire and damages were estimated at $40,000. The residents received assistance from the Red Cross and were unable to return to the home. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal's Office. TFD was also assisted at the scene by the Tallahassee Police Department.
The second structure fire came in at 10:08 p.m. located at the Arbor View Apartments 2750 Old St. Augustine Road. Residents called 9-1-1 after their clothes dryer caught on fire inside their bottom floor apartment. The two adults, two children and dog safely evacuated the unit before fire crews arrived. Firefighters made entry and extinguished a large amount of fire inside the kitchen of the apartment. The quick action of the fire crews kept the fire contained to one unit. The three-story apartment building was evacuated during the incident and residents were able to return after the fire. The fire victims were displaced as a result of the fire damage inside their unit and received assistance from the Red Cross. Damages were estimated at $30,000 and likely caused by a clogged dryer vent. No injuries were reported and TFD was assisted by TPD at the scene.
