WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Jurors say a retired Delray Beach attorney should receive $7.7 million for the pain and suffering he's endured since his neighbor's dogs bit him.

Jerry Kern told the Palm Beach Post (http://bit.ly/PvFkPg ) the collection process won't be easy. Former neighbors Laurie and Bruce Cossar didn't defend themselves during the one-day trial last week. They sold their house after Kern filed a lawsuit in 2012 and moved to the Turks and Caicos.

Kern was attacked outside his home by three mixed-breed dogs in December 2011. He says he's had lingering pain caused by twisting and turning while trying to fend off the dogs and eventually had a back operation.

He says Laurie Cossar wrote an apology letter after the attack, while her husband blamed Kern for provoking the dogs.
