Associated Press News Release
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (AP) -- A Winter Haven man told police he stabbed his mother to death because she had been "controlling his money for too long."
Officers found 36-year-old Micah Lee Hobbs sitting on the ground laughing several block from his house early Sunday morning. His grandmother called 911 minutes earlier after hearing the attack.
The Ledger of Lakeland (http://bit.ly/1g06fIm ) reports 83-year-old Janie Hampton pushed Hobbs out of the house before finding her 57-year-old daughter Eva Hobbs in a pool of blood.
Police say an 11-inch kitchen knife was on the woman's body.
Police Chief Gary Hester said Hobbs has been "treated for some mental issues" in the past.
Hobbs was booked into the Polk County Jail on first-degree murder charges.
