NAPLES, Fla. (AP) -- May 20, 2011

A 53-year-old high school band director was sentenced to 30 years in prison for having a sexual relationship with a student.

The 17-year-old victim asked a judge on Thursday to impose a
strict sentence, saying she's been robbed of "a normal teenage
life."

Robert Hamberg faced a minimum of 60 years under sentencing
guidelines. Collier Circuit Judge Frederick Hardt did not say why
he imposed a lesser sentence. The judge ordered Hamberg to serve 15 years on sex offender probation upon release from prison.

Hamberg was band director and a teacher at Gulf Coast High
School in Naples. He faced eight counts of lewd and lascivious
battery on the teen from incidents that took place between February
and May 2009.
