Onlookers at the Farmer's Market on Market Square got a surprise Saturday 5-12-12.
A a flash mob shimmy and shook their way in front of the crowd. The group showed off a variety of belly-dancing moves as part of its 'Shimmy Mob', which was done to raise money for the Refuge House, a shelter that aids victims of domestic violence.
"The reason we do Shimmy Mob, and probably the most important reason is to bring awareness to women's and children's issues and to raise money for local women's shelters," says Laura Chan.
'Shimmy Mob' is part of a world-wide event that celebrates ' World Belly Dance Day' .
