Press Release: The Florida Office of Financial Regulation (OFR)
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Office of Financial Regulation (OFR) today announced that the judges of the Prudential-Davis Productivity Awards have awarded the OFR seven awards. These awards recognize the OFR’s commitment to resourcefully regulating the financial services industry and protecting consumers of Florida.

“As an agency, we are committed to executing our mission as efficiently and effectively as possible,” said OFR Commissioner Drew J. Breakspear. “Our team is proud to be recognized by the Prudential-Davis Productivity Awards for our dedicated effort to constantly seek to improve our processes to save Florida tax payer dollars.”

The following is a description of the OFR’s notable award winners.

· Sanctioning a Major Broker Dealer - A Notable Team Award was presented to staff members of the Division of Securities, Diana Wright, Jessica Vizcarra and David Rappaport, for investigating and sanctioning a major Broker-Dealer who provided inaccurate information to Florida citizens. A Final Order was issued ordering the company to pay a $1.1 million fine, correct the deficiencies in internal procedures and offer rescission for 69 transactions by Florida consumers.

· Implementation of a Telework Program – The OFR implemented a telework program to support a reduction in leased office space. By implementing a telework program, the OFR is able to maintain an effective presence in major cities without a “brick and mortar” office. The program saves more than $500,000 annually.

· Increased Savings to the Taxpayers through a Renegotiated Contract – OFR staff members, Gregory Hila, Janice Jackson and J. Ross Nobles, were commended for their efforts to renegotiate an agency contract. The result of this team’s efforts resulted in a savings of more than $3.9 million over a four year period.

The Prudential-Davis Productivity Awards are presented annually to individuals, teams, and agencies within state government who demonstrate a significant performance improvement, cost savings, or program enhancement. The 2012-2013 Prudential-Davis Productivity Awards will be presented in June at ceremonies across the state.

Press Release: Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR)

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – More than 200 Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) employees today were recognized for their cost savings efforts in this year’s Davis Productivity Awards. Across the agency, 20 awards were presented to various individuals and teams of employees accounting for cost savings of more than $4 million and an estimated $3.3 billion that went back into Florida’s economy by allowing qualified businesses and professionals to begin operating and earning revenue faster.

“I am extremely proud of the work these dedicated public servants have done for the people of our great state,” said DBPR Secretary Ken Lawson. “These awards highlight the efficiencies gained and processes improved so that we may better serve our customers.”

Through several of the Department’s process improvements, the agency is able to more efficiently assist its customers and allow licensees to focus on their businesses and their bottom line. For example, one award was presented to the Division of Hotels and Restaurants for combining the plan review and licensing process for restaurants, allowing applicable businesses to get licenses approximately four days faster. The Department was also recognized for its efforts to streamline professional license processing, reducing the length of time to process a professional license from 41 days in 2008 down to a current average of less than two days.

Other improvements that were recognized this year included reduced document retrieval times, more efficient uses of staff resources rather than third party vendors and developing a tablet inspection solution to speed up restaurant and hotel inspections.

The annual Prudential - Davis Productivity Awards recognize the ingenuity, creativity and dedication of state employees through increased government efficiencies. Cash awards, commemorative plaques and certificates of commendation are presented each year to state employees who clearly exceed their job descriptions and performance expectations in ways that improve service delivery and save money for Florida taxpayers and businesses.

The Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s mission is to license efficiently and regulate fairly. The Department licenses and regulates more than one million businesses and professionals ranging from hotels and restaurants, real estate agents and accountants to veterinarians, contractors and cosmetologists.
