MIAMI (AP) -- South Florida officials are expecting more than 1,200 homeless people to attend a big birthday bash.
The Miami Rescue Mission and the Broward Outreach Center are hosting a party Wednesday with cupcakes, ice cream, live music and decorations. Each guest will receive also receive a birthday card and Chick-Fil-A is donating meals to partygoers.
The parties will take place in Miami, Hollywood and Pompano Beach.
Director of Development Marilyn Brummitt says many homeless people never have a chance to celebrate their birthdays. She says the party is a small way to let them know they are not forgotten and to also link them to services to get them off the streets.
