Associated Press Release
BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) -- A Lee County Sheriff's deputy has been arrested for allegedly battering and robbing a man he had offered to give a ride home.
Lee County officials said Michael Ronga and other deputies received a call about a disturbance at a restaurant in Bonita Springs.
Ronga offered to give the victim a ride home, but instead authorities say the deputy drove somewhere else and battered and robbed the victim. The victim ran into the woods and Ronga allegedly drove off.
Sheriff Mike Scott said he was disgusted and in disbelief. He ordered a full investigation into the incident.
Ronga was charged with robbery Sunday and placed on administrative leave without pay.
