Florida Election Laws

The American Civil Liberties Union along with a Tampa state senator and other groups are challenging a Florida election law.

The ACLU, State Sen. Arthenia Joyner and the National Council of La Raza say that that the Secretary of State is violating state law because five counties are following different election rules than the remaining 62 counties.

Last year the Florida Legislature passed a law that curtailed early voting hours and made it harder for people to change their address on Election Day. The changes have not yet taken effect in five counties -- including Hillsborough and Collier -- because it still under review by a federal court.

The groups want an administrative judge to order state election officials to use one set of rules for the entire state.
