Florida Gangs

Florida's first gang census shows the state has 1,403 documented gangs with 56,200 members, associates and suspected members.

That's nearly the population of the city of Homestead.

Attorney General Bill McCollum released his annual Gang
Reduction Strategy Report on Wednesday, December 22. For the first time it includes gang statistics from all 67 Florida counties.

McCollum said the survey will help Florida's fight against gang
activity because it'll serve as a baseline for measuring future

Since the gang reduction strategy began in 2007 the statewide
prosecutor's office has charged more than 170 gang members. About
110 of those defendants have received sentences totaling more than
950 years in prison.

ANONYMOUS: You can't defend yourself ANONYMOUS, because Willie Meggs, the elected States Attorney, will prosecute you if you have a gun and actually have to use it. He can't have citizens taking care of business because that would lessen his workload and make him look useless like he is.

another reason every law abiding citizen should carry a firearm and know how to use it. when we start shooting back, believe me, they'll leave.

gangs aren't always about drugs. they may use drugs, but not all gangs sell drugs. in cali where i come from, the gangs are known for violence not selling drugs.

Okay then I will go to the corner liqour store and get me a 40 and wreck my truck in your living room! The only way gangs stay in biz is the drugs. Did you here of drivebys BEFORE the crack epidemic? This is not the Mafia we are discussing. Major differance then street level thugs. Like I said, you will never stop people from using drugs and locking them up is clearly not the answer.

Tiny, your a joke. You pot heads take every opportunity you can to justify getting high, such as an article on gangs. "Smoking since 11, multiple degrees" yea right, soooo successful. Your high typing this aren't you? Anyway, put down the bong, get outside, and get healthy. ALL drugs, including alcohol, impairs the body. Society is safer without drugs being legal. Illegal drugs bring certian crimes such as possession, trafficking, smuggling, and money laundering however if drugs are legal, violent crimes would increase such as homicide or robbery. People would still have to pay or rob for those drugs, legal or illegal. Merry Christmas.

@mom: You're welcome. You do need to know to these things. Maybe if you spent a little more time researching these "problems" you wouldn't have such a narrow cultural worldview. And by the way, my mother is very proud of me; as opposed to the feelings you have towards your children, which I'm going to assume are that of resentment and failure.
