Families of inmates are the focus of a scam in Hernando County.
The Hernando County Sheriff's Office warned the public of the scam on Monday.
Deputies say callers make promises to get the inmates into treatment programs in exchange for money.
In one case, a relative of an inmate says she was directed to purchase a credit card, then call a phone number and provide the credit card number to a person she believed to be a jail official.
However, her relative never left the Hernando County Detention Center and her card was depleted of money.
Officials say they are investigating the case and warn other relatives not to believe such claims.
