Boca Raton, FL (AP) - A Florida man is accused of choking his
puppy to death.
Shane Michael Thompson of Boca Raton was charged Wednesday with animal cruelty.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says a friend called
animal control Oct. 7 to report that he suspected Thompson of
killing his three-legged wolf-dog mix named Moonshine.
Investigators tracked the dog to an animal clinic where Thompson
had tried to have the dog cremated. A necropsy showed the dog
suffered severe blunt force trauma and died from asphyxiation due
to aspiration of food.
Thompson's roommate and friends told police they saw Thompson
abuse Moonshine to discipline the animal on previous occasions.
Thompson remained held without bond early Friday. Jail records
did not show whether he was being represented by an attorney.
