Miami, FL (AP) - Miami health officials say test results confirm
that an American Airlines passenger who became ill on a flight from
the Dominican Republic to Miami on Thanksgiving had cholera.
The Miami-Dade Health Department released the results Monday.
Officials said the man was a doctor who had been treating
This marks the third confirmed case in Florida. State health
officials say a Collier County woman and an Orlando-area women have
recovered from cholera linked to an outbreak in Haiti.
The disease is caused by a bacterial infection of the intestine.
Normally, it's transmitted through an infected water supply.
