School principals from across Florida were recognized today for raising student achievement at high-risk schools.
Florida TaxWatch awarded six top performing principals with the Elite Principal Award. These principals have helped improve teacher recruitment and retention and also educational success for students at schools that may be troubled and forgotten. Data collected from the Florida Department of Education helped determine winning principals and will also help other schools improve by taking similar routes.
"What are they doing that gets them extraordinary results? Is it use of the curriculum? Is it inspiring teachers differently? Is it involving parents and the business community? How are some making the difference while others are not, so we can move everybody towards a greater performance?" said Dominic Calabro, Florida TaxWatch President.
Five of the principals school districts were from Miami Dade County - one was from Pasco County.
