Gadsden County, FL ---
Wallace Reddick hasn't been to a doctor in more than 10 years. Thursday he decided it was time to walk in to the Gadsden County Health Department and make an appointment.
"I think it's very important for you to come out and have yourself checked and tested for different things because your health is very important," says Wallace Reddick of Gadsden County.
The Gadsden County Health Department is hoping more people are like Redding and want to be educated and find out their health status.
The Florida Department of Health ranked Gadsden County 64 out of the state’s 67 counties when it comes to healthy living among its residents. That's why the county health department has implemented several health initiatives like the Healthy Start Program and Get Going Gadsden among other outreach and prevention programs to educate people and try to prevent disparities.
Whether it's hitting the basketball courts or taking your daily run around the track, health experts say it's important to maintain your health.
We caught up with Barbara Lewis who says she walks about two miles everyday to maintain her health. She’s staying healthy as part of the Healthy Start Program in Gadsden County.
"That's what it's all about these days - eating right, living right and exercising because it's good for your blood pressure," says Lewis.
